Media and Academic Technologies Services (MATS)
Who We Are and What We Do
Our Mission: MATS’ mission is providing high quality, purposeful technology solutions that advance teaching and learning with trust, understanding, and care.
The Media and Academic Technologies Services (MATS) Department is located on the first floor of the Conable Technology Building on GCC’s main Batavia campus. We are part of the Computer Services division and are responsible to:
- Staff and manage hardware and software for events requiring one or more MATS service (e.g., presentations, lectures/speeches, Q&A/Town Halls, Zoom/video conferencing, Vimeo/live streaming, Encore, Fashion Show, Graduation)
- Lend AV hardware to staff and faculty for short-term use
- Batavia campus digital signage (except roadside marquee, managed by Marcom)
- Design, deploy, and manage mobile audio-visual and video conferencing equipment
- Implement, manage, troubleshoot, and problem-solve audio-visual technologies (e.g., projections/large wall displays, presentation systems, audio systems, document cameras, video conferencing systems) in a variety of traditional and non-traditional spaces (e.g., classrooms, meeting rooms, offices, in-between spaces, open inside and outside spaces)
- Support faculty and staff to utilize AV equipment, services, and select applications (e.g., Zoom, Panopto)
- Facilitate the exploration, implementation, management, and success of new media and academic technologies hardware, software, and systems that meet GCC’s strategic goals
- Produce, record, copy, reformat, and edit select audio-visual content for faculty and staff (subject to scope and copyright)
- Manage all phases of Media and Academic Technologies and other IT project management
- Collaborate with other departments within and outside of Computer Services to plan, deliver, and manage services that meet or exceed all GCC community members’ and visitors’ MAT needs
